At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Oscar Ly, a fifth grader from Scouters Mountain Elementary School was recognized for his winning poster submission in the 2024 โ€œIf I were Mayor, I Wouldโ€ฆโ€ contest. Sponsored by the Oregon Mayors Association, the contest encourages youth to take a closer look at their community and describe what they would do if they could be mayor.ย Additionally, Josephine Zubenskaya, a fifth grader from Scouters Mountain Elementary School and Allison Maxwell, a fourth grader from Verne Duncan Elementary School, received honorable mention for their poster submissions. All three students were recognized by City Council and presented with a formal certificate. Oscar took home the grand prize of a $100 gift card.

Thank you to all the students who participated this year and to all the local schools that gave Mayor Ellis an opportunity to speak with the kids about this activity. If your student submitted a poster and would like to bring it back home, simply stop by City Hall to retrieve it by May 15.
