Road construction project nearing completion

Safety improvements on SE 129th Ave. between SE Mountain Gate Road north to SE Scott Creek Lane are getting closer to wrapping up. At the time of print, the City anticipates reopening the road to traffic Feb. 1. Inclement weather and material delays led to significant setbacks, which affected the timeline of the project. Originally slated to be completed November 2020, crews have been waiting to shore up tasks related to the new guardrail, utility undergrounding, retaining wall and stormwater mainline piping.

This stretch is one of the few major thoroughfares leading into an established area of the City, and by widening the road and installing several other protective features, the project will increase travel safety for all modes of transport. The City does anticipate there will be some final work to complete once the weather improves, however only limited road closure would be needed during that time. Residents can walk through the area using the marked pedestrian pathway while final touches are completed.

Earlier this month, the stretch of SE 129th Avenue from SE Mountain Gate Road north to SE Scott Creek Lane was closed, officially commencing a major road project that aims to bring significant safety improvements to this area. While residents may not be able to see past the traffic barricades just yet, crews are hard at work and currently focusing efforts on underground utility relocations for water and gas, and performing the mass excavation work needed to create the multi-use path. Trenching is also in the works, with preparations being made for power, phone, cable, and other necessary utilities. Be sure to check back each month for more updates and get a glimpse of the work in progress!
