Visitors to these parks will notice fencing restricting access to the affected areas as current equipment is prepped for removal. Park goers may experience complete park closure at Ashley Meadows during demolition, but our team will ensure walking areas and other amenities are available as soon as possible. The playgrounds at both parks will remain off limits for now, with new equipment anticipated to be ready for play in May or April. Timing for this will largely depend on weather, as some stages of the installation process will require drier weather to proceed.
Stay tuned for additional updates as we bring you more information about these exciting developments. As you may recall, new playground equipment, which was funded with the help of Parks Levy dollars, was most recently installed at Happy Valley and Village Green Parks. These updated features included ADA and all abilities options. Though the former structures at Ashley Meadows and Southern Lites Parks were functional, evaluations concluded they would soon need safety updates and additional repairs. We’re getting one step closer to our new playgrounds being ready for play! This week at Happy Valley Park, the main playground near picnic area A and the playground near the gazebo will both see new rubber surfacing installed. Benefits to this addition include increased injury protection, weather resistant materials, and a terrain that is more inclusive for all. Residents and visitors may notice some increased noise throughout the day as the flooring is installed, but once completely poured, it doesn’t take long to set. Following any rain, the playground at Village Green Park is slated to receive new flooring next week. Stay tuned for more updates as we head into the home stretch!
*For the surfacing installation, construction hours will run from 7am to 9pm on weekdays and 7am to 8pm on weekends.

Progress is in motion as new play equipment at Happy Valley Park and Village Green Park nears installation. The previous play structures were removed in July to maximize the dry weather needed to prepare the area for the new equipment. Though the former structures were functional, evaluations concluded they would soon need safety updates and additional repairs. The new structures will be installed in mid-September, with structures at Village Green Park to be fitted shortly after. Once complete, visitors to these areas will find a variety of updated features, including All-Abilities options at each location. It should be noted that the playground located next to the tennis courts at Happy Valley Park will maintain the play structure there currently, however new rubber surfacing will replace the rubber mulch.
Made possible by Happy Valley Parks and Recreation, these updates are anticipated to be completed Fall 2022.
BONUS! Residents will also see new rubber surfacing installed at the All Abilities Park playground at Happy Valley Park in mid-September. The area will be briefly closed while this work is completed.
Affected areas include the main Happy Valley Park playground next to picnic shelter A and All Abilities Park, the small Happy Valley Park Playground next to the baseball field, and the Village Green Park playground across from the HV Library.
