Earlier today, Daimler Truck North America, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the non-profit Friends of Trees celebrated 11 years of their 3’s for Trees program by hosting a tree planting event at Happy Valley Park. The program, founded on the shared commitment to environmental sustainability, ensures that trees are planted for every three-point shot made by the Trail Blazers on the court. Even Trail Blazers forward, Kris Murray, got in on the fun and planted some trees!

Throughout the 2024-25 season, the Trail Blazers program has donated more than 4,500 trees between fan participation in the online Hoop Heroes game and the Trail Blazers’ 976 three-pointers, totaling 48,708 trees planted since the program’s inception. To put those trees into perspective, the program has planted 19 acres of trees, the equivalent of 171 basketball courts. As these plants mature, they will absorb 40 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere and provide enough oxygen for 97,000 people annually, generating clean air for years to come.
