Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is celebrated each year in June to honor the Stonewall Uprising, which occurred in late June of 1969 and was a tipping point in the movement for LGBTQ+ rights. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize and celebrate the contributions of LGBTQ+ people throughout history and in the present day.
