For Disability Pride Month, we are highlighting new titles by writers, artists and activists with disabilities. We are also featuring books that focus on the lives and contributions of people with disabilities and books that chronicle the history of the disability rights movement.
Disability Pride Month celebrates disabled persons embracing their disabilities as integral parts of who they are and reclaiming visibility in public. Disability pride has been described as accepting and honoring each person’s uniqueness, seeing it as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity. The disability movement encompasses people with physical disabilities; sensory disabilities, such as blindness and deafness; neurodiversity; mental illness; and invisible and undiagnosed disabilities.
