Building Community One Block at a Time

Keep the summer fun going with a neighborhood block party! From driveway barbecues and lawn games to potlucks and sidewalk chalk art, block parties are a great way to meet neighbors, strengthen connections, and create a stronger sense of community right where you live. To encourage neighborhood gatherings, Happy Valley City Council has waived all fees for neighborhood block party permits.

Residents also have the option to request a temporary street closure, allowing more space for neighbors to gather and children to play more freely away from traffic. If a closure is requested, the City will provide safety barricades and assist with neighborhood notifications. Organizers are also encouraged to invite Happy Valley Police, Clackamas Fire District #1, and Community Service Officers to join the fun and connect with community members when available.

Summer 2026: Happy Valley Parks and Recreation is offering some additional fun to help take your block party to the next level (when requested and if available). From July 13th—September 16th the City can provide the following party add-ons to ONE block party each week  — on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays only due to program scheduling:

  • Hot dogs, buns, and crime prevention materials for up to 50 people
  • A visit from the RecMobile with a variety of fun games and activities

Dependent on availability:

  • Police
  • Fire Department
  • Community Service Officers

Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible so that the City can make any necessary arrangements. Applications will be approved on a case-by-case basis. For party organizers that are not electing to utilize any of the add-on features, block parties can typically be scheduled at your convenience throughout the year.
