Dumpster Day 2024

Too much stuff? Dumpster Day returns to help get you back on track

Event will take place at Happy Valley Park.  Line-up starts on Ridgecrest Road, going both East and West Directions.

Mark your calendars and start sorting your stuff because Dumpster Day returns to Happy Valley on Saturday, June 8 from 8am-noon. Brought to you by Happy Valley Parks and Recreation, this event is the perfect opportunity to dispose of items you have been meaning to discard as it includes drop off stations for junk, donations, paper shredding and tires. Event will take place at Happy Valley Park located at: 13770 SE Ridgecrest Rd. Happy Valley, OR 97086

A shredding truck will also be on hand to safely dispose of your old paper files and documents. Limit two banker boxes per residence.

To accommodate as many households as possible, we must specify:

  • No commercial trailer loads
  • No oversize U-haul loads
  • One trip through per residence

Gates will close prior to posted closing time if we reach capacity

The City would like to thank the following community partners for helping make this year’s Dumpster Day possible: Waste Management, Hoodview Disposal, Recology, Metro, Goodwill, and Les Schwab Tires.

Please note: Due to collection volume and space limitations, this event is limited to Happy Valley* residents. (*97086 zip code is not always within City boundaries. Bring I.D. for address verification within City boundaries.) For more information about this and to confirm your address is within City limits, head to www.happyvalleyor.gov/city-limits-explained

While we will do what we can to expedite the line and volunteers will be available should you need help, please support our efforts by being ready when it is your turn to unload your vehicle and make room for the next resident by exiting the area once you are finished. Please plan accordingly as there may be significant wait times to access various stations. Your partnership is crucial to helping us continue to provide this complimentary service to all residents of Happy Valley.

Yard debris Drop OFF at Public Works

Although the Dumpster Day bins are not able to take things like leaves or branches, residents can drop off seasonal yard debris (leaves, woody debris and grass clippings) at the Public Works building for free recycling. This is a great way to dispose of any remaining branches or debris left over from the spring snowstorm.

Please note that the Public Works building is located at 13910 SE Ridgecrest Road, adjacent to Happy Valley Park. It will not be a station along the regular Dumpster Day route, so make sure you allow some additional time to visit that location in the event you have other items to discard.

Residents are responsible for unloading and de-bagging their drop-off materials on-site. *No commercial landscaping or contractor loads will be accepted.

When it comes to the dumpster, there are some items that can and cannot be accepted:

Items you can drop off:

Broken household items

Electronics: TVs and computer equipment for E-cycling

  • Flooring – vinyl tiles, vinyl sheet, mastic
  • Walls – plaster, decorative plaster
  • Siding – cement siding shingles “Transite”
  • Ceilings – acoustical tiles, “popcorn” and spray-on texture

In Honor of our Flag

With Flag Day coming up, the City is proud to partner with local Troop 611 to offer you an opportunity to drop off any worn out, faded, or torn American flags. The Scouts will have a special station at our upcoming Dumpster Day event and will be accepting flags to ensure they are ceremoniously retired.

Those interested in dropping off a flag are encouraged to properly fold it prior to the event. If you need assistance, volunteers will be on hand at the event to help. You can also check out the links below for a step-by-step guide that walks you through how to do it.

Can’t make it to Dumpster Day? That’s okay. City Hall will be a permanent collection site for American flags and Troop 611 will continue to make sure they are retired with a traditional ceremony.
