Portland General Electric has successfully completed the undergrounding of cables at SE 129th & King. Following suit, communication companies, Lumen, Comcast, Ziply, and Verizon are slated to pull their cables underground in the coming weeks. Private utility conversions are already in motion, with utility poles, including streetlights, set for removal within the next 2-3 weeks. Right-of-way restoration will promptly follow, with the entire project expected to conclude by June 1st. At that time, efforts will shift to beginning construction on the roundabout at SE129th Ave and King Rd.

Efforts are underway to enhance the area’s stormwater management infrastructure. Crews are currently focused on installing a robust stormwater system, ensuring efficient drainage. Meanwhile, construction has commenced on the pivotal Mt. Scott Creek Bridge, a vital component of the project’s infrastructure. A permanent lane closure on King Rd. will remain in place throughout the summer as work is carried out, but two-way traffic will be maintained.
Looking ahead, preparations are being made to initiate the construction of a stormwater detention pond to help manage urban stormwater runoff and reduce flooding risks. Once complete, these efforts will help crews get ready to fill in the remaining sections of sidewalk to then complete the fully linked Superblock.
