Retaining Wall

A permit is needed for retaining walls 4 feet and taller.

In addition to the zoning designation the following chapters of the Land Development Code (LDC) are applicable to retaining walls:

Review Process

Retaining walls 4-12 feet in height may be processed with the building permit or site development permit while taller retaining walls are subject to a Type II process with the Planning Division. The Type II process starts with a pre-application conference to provide feedback on a proposal and the information necessary to submit a complete land use application. Once an application is submitted, it is reviewed for completeness purposes within 30 days. Per State law, once complete, a decision from the city is provided within 120 days.
